Chengdu FIDE Grand Prix: Indian success in round 2

Harika Dronavalli scored her second consecutive victory to maintain the lead in the FIDE Women's Grand Prix in Chengdu.

Humpy Koneru defeated Zhao Xue and is currently second behind her compatriot.

The remaining four games were drawn. Olga Girya was so close to winning against Anna Muzychuk, but the Ukrainian found escape in the bishops ending.

Harika Dronavalli victorious in round 1

Harika Dronavalli scored a win with black pieces in the first round of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix in Chengdu, China.

The remaining five games were drawn, but not without fight. Anna Muzychuk dropped big advantage against Zhao Xue, while the battle of two former world champions - Antoaneta Stefanova and Mariya Muzychuk was full of excitement.

The ceremonial first move was made by Mr. Gong Jinhua, advisor of Sichuan government and president of Chengdu Board Games Sport Association, and Mr. Ye Jiangchuan, Vice President of CCA.

Chengdu FIDE Women Grand Prix - Opening Ceremony

The fourth stage of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix series 2015-2016 was officially opened on 1st July with a series of events in Chengdu, China.

From 15:30 a press conference was held at the Chengdu Chess Institute. FIDE President Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Vice President of Chinese Chess Association Mr. Ye Jiangchuan, Director of Chengdu Sports Bureau Madam Tan Xuejun, and FIDE CEO Geoffrey Borg participated in the meeting.

The colorful opening ceremony and drawing of lots started from 16:30 at the most prosperous street in the center downtown of Chengdu city. Mr. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Mr. Ye Jiangchuan and Madam Tan Xuejun announced the opening together by touching a ball.

Chengdu FIDE Women Grand Prix opening tomorrow
The Chinese Chess Association, in partnership with the International Chess Federation (FIDE), is organizing the fourth tournament of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix series 2015/2016 from 1-15th July in Chengdu, China.

A round robin tournament with twelve top women players will be held in Wang Jiang Hotel *****.

The event is sponsored by Chinese Chess Association and Chengdu Sports Bureau, and co-organized by Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, Board and Card Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China, Chengdu Chess Institute and Chengdu Chess Association.

Chengdu is strongly supporting the development and popularisation of the mind games. The city already hosted the 2015 Women's World Team Championship and FIDE Presidential Board.

FIDE Women's Grand Prix - Standings
After three stages of the 2015-2016 FIDE Women's Grand Prix, Valentina Gunina and Nana Dzagnidze are on the top of the combined standings with 205 points each.

Dzagnidze, however, already played in three tournaments, while Gunina has only two competitions so far.
